Amanda Valter
Founding Attorney
About
Amanda Valter
Amanda Valter is the founding attorney of Valter Law Firm. She represents individuals and families throughout North Florida in criminal defense, family law, injunction proceedings, and education-related legal matters.
Amanda’s practice is built on a simple belief: when people come into contact with the legal system, they deserve clear guidance, careful listening, and steady advocacy. Many clients seek legal help during some of the most stressful and uncertain moments of their lives. Amanda approaches each case with preparation, honesty, and a commitment to helping clients move forward with clarity.
Education and Early Commitment to Advocacy
Amanda earned her Juris Doctor from Florida State University College of Law. During law school, she developed a strong interest in advocacy and the role the legal system plays in shaping the lives of individuals and families.
While still in law school, Amanda began volunteering as a Guardian ad Litem, advocating for the best interests of children involved in the dependency system. Through that work, she saw firsthand how legal decisions can affect the stability, safety, and future of children and families. That experience helped shape her commitment to thoughtful, client-centered advocacy.
Public Defense and Courtroom Experience
Amanda began her legal career as an Assistant Public Defender, representing individuals facing criminal charges. In that role, she handled a wide range of cases, from petit thefts and trespasses to felony drug charges and felony battery. She gained meaningful courtroom experience, including sitting first chair on several trials.
Public defense requires careful preparation, the ability to think quickly in the courtroom, and a deep understanding of how the criminal justice system affects real people and families. Through this work, Amanda had the opportunity to see the the shortcomings of the criminal justice system, the life circumstances that lead to higher incarceration rates, and the long-term impact of charges and convictions on the lives of her clients. She developed strong litigation skills and a commitment to ensuring that every client receives a full and fair defense.
Family Law and Civil Advocacy
Amanda later served as an attorney with Legal Services of North Florida, where she represented clients in a wide range of family law matters, including:
-
divorce
-
paternity
-
parenting plans and custody disputes
-
child support
-
injunctions for protection
-
attorney ad litem appointments involving the interests of children
Through this work, Amanda helped individuals and families navigate complex legal situations that often involved deeply personal and emotional issues. She understands that family law matters require not only legal knowledge, but also patience, empathy, and practical problem-solving.
Life Outside the Office
Amanda lives in North Florida with her husband and three children. Outside of her legal practice, she enjoys spending time with her family, being involved in her community, and pursuing creative hobbies such as photography and fiber arts.
These experiences help shape Amanda’s perspective as both a lawyer and a parent. She understands that behind every legal case is a real person or family navigating difficult circumstances, and she approaches her work with that understanding in mind.
